How to wash sequins.....
Now that the holiday season is over, you may be wondering how to clean your party pieces, in this series to cover those tricky to launder fabrics. Starting here with sequins.
To wash sequins, you can follow these steps:
-
Check the care label: Before washing, check the care label of the garment to ensure that it's safe to machine wash or hand wash the sequins. Some sequined items may be dry clean only.
-
Use a gentle detergent: Choose a gentle detergent that is designed for delicate fabrics. Avoid using harsh detergents or bleach, as this can cause the sequins to break or fade.
-
Wash in cold water: Set your washing machine to the delicate cycle and use cold water. Hot water can cause the sequins to shrink or lose their shape.
-
Use a gentle agitation: If you're washing the sequins by hand, gently agitate the water to remove dirt and debris. Do not scrub or wring the sequins, as this can cause them to break or become damaged.
-
Air dry: After washing, gently squeeze out excess water and lay the sequined item flat to air dry. Do not use a tumbledryer, as the heat can cause the sequins to shrink or become damaged.
-
Store carefully: Once the sequined item is completely dry, store it in a cool, dry place to prevent any damage from moisture or sunlight.
Note: It's always a good idea to test a small, inconspicuous area of the sequined garment before washing it, to ensure that the sequins are colourfast and won't bleed.
